Sloppy Firsts

Jess always looks around at the girls she goes to school with and she wonders why they all look so perfect.  Jess think she was hit with the ugly stick one too many times.  High school would be just a tiny bit easier if she had good looks.  Some of the popular girls at school that Jess like to call "The Clueless Crew" are all perfect; long blonde hair, bight eyes, perfect skin and makeup, the coolest clothes,  and skinny yet curvy in all the right places.  Not to mention, they have balloon boobs. I can agree with Jess on that because thats just not fair.  Im starting to feel bad for Jess but I have a feeling that things will start getting better for her.

Sloppy Firsts

Jess begins talking about her childhood, and it turns out that Jess used to have a bother the same age as Hope's bother.  But coincidently, he did also, but not from a drug overdose like Hope’s brother did.  But when Jess was younger she used to be nice and sweet, and now that she is older, she is not so sweet anymore.  In fact, her father even calls her “Notso,” as in Jessica Not-So-Darling, as her nickname.  If her parents were to throw her a sweet sixteen party this year, Jess would rather not have the party and stay home.  But she remembers when she was little, she used to play with Charlie’s Angel dolls which were her favorite toy.  But since Jess isn’t the prettiest girl at school, she noticed that one of the dolls she played with didn’t have fake eyelashes.  She figured that since this doll was one of the smartest of the three dolls, it must be some kind of rule that you can’t be pretty AND smart, you have to be one or the other.  In Jess’s case, she figured she was just smart.

Sloppy Firsts

It turns out that Hope moved away after Jess's brother dies of a drug overdose.   Now, Jess has to cope with loss of the only friend who understands her too.  She writes diary entries and monthly letters to Hope.  but it turns out that her and her sister are not on good terms so Jess vents in her letters to Hope. but Jess feels frustrated because she excels in school with ease.  I wish i had that problem but I wouldn't complain if I did. Jess feels that she is participating in class only for her college applications. But one day she conveniently hurt her ankle so she replaced her passion of track with journalism, and her  editorials make her a spokesperson for the "non-Upper Crusts" at her high school.

Sloppy Firsts by Megan Mccafferty

This book was reccommended to me by a good friend of mine.  I'm guessing it is nothing like my previous book that I was reading.  This book seems like more of your average teenage girl book and I can already relate to it.  The main character, Jessica, was left in the same old town while her best friend, Hope moved away.  This happened to me right after 8th grade graduation, my best friend moved all the way to Panama.  I can relate to their feelings because it is not always the easiest thing to go through, especially right before I started high school. Jess and Hope made sure to keep in contact by snail mail, phone calls, and email at least once a day.  I'm wondering if it will be like the relationship I had with my friend.

4th Quarter Book: Sloppy Firsts, Megan McCafferty

Although I haven’t started reading this book yet, I’ll let you know why I chose it.  Personally, I love fun, girlie books about friends, boys and love.  I feel that if I relate to the books that I read then it will be more enjoyable for me to read.  This book deals with issues such as conflicts with parents, dating boys, and losing friends… a typical high school novel.  I’m excited to begin reading with book, and maybe learning a few things about life.

Buzz Kryptonite

On night, Gia and her boss Maria decided to go out for some drinks and dancing.  Maria ended up getting kind of sloppy and before Gia knew it, people began making fun of Maria at the club.  Before things got worse, Gia pulled her out of the club and took her for a walk.  The walked down the boardwalk and soon ended up near tansastic.  The faint smell of skunk lingered in the air near by, only they knew it wasn't a skunk.  They soon came across some hippies smoking weed on the beach.  Gia yelled and warned them of a cop near by.  She lead them into Tantastic so they could hide out for a while.  Maria was not only drunk now, but she was high as well.  While everyone was smoking it up in the salon, Pete, one of the hippies, was getting pretty close to Gia.  They decided to go lay in one of the tannaing beds and make out.  Although Gia was mostly into gorilla juice heads, she though this skinny pot head wasn't too bad either.  They soon started to see blue and red flashing lights.  "Cops!" screadmed on of the hippies. They all ran out of the salon faster than a cheetah.  A fireman came in and carried out Maria and Gia from the salon.  There obviously was no fire but Maria's ex husband who lives across the street "claimed" to have seen smoke and called the fire department just to ruin their fun. However, Gia seemed really interested in the fireman.

Rule of Ten

Gia practically begged for an invatation to Neil's party.  She had a little crush on him but she was anxious to see him at his party.  Gia ended up dragging along Bella and her new work out boy-toy, Bender.  They drove there in his nice BMW.  Bender didn't seem to fond of Gia, but she didn't give a shit what he thought about her.  She was just glad she had a ride to the party.  After giving Bender wrong directions, Bender had zero tolerance for Gia.  Bella tried mediating the tention by calming Bender down so we woudn't start drama.  Once they arrived at the party, she searched for Neil but he was no where to be found.  She asked one of the other guests and they informed her that he couldnt get out of bed for his own party. "Poor Lobster."  Gia walked upstairs to his bedroom where she found him lying helplessly sunburned beyond belief.  She felt so bad but the damage was already done.
